History

Over the years there have been 4 generations of the Acura TL. The first generation of the Acura TL (1996-1998) had 2 types. One had a 2.5 liter 176HP engine and the other had a 3.2 liter 200HP engine.  After 1998 the Acura TL production in Japan came to an end and they are now being assembled in the US.

The Acura TL Type-S came out with the second generation (1993-2003). This time both TL’s had 3.2L engines but the TL Type-s had a 260HP engine whereas the TL had a 225HP engine.  During year 2 of the production, Acura gave the TL a few more features which included a 5-Speed automatic transmission with SportShirft.

Afterwards came the 3rd generation of Acura TL’s (2004-2008.) The TL became Acura’s best selling luxury sedan in 2004 with more than 79,000 sold that year.  This time the Acura TL had a 3.2L 258HP engine whereas the Acura TL Type-s had a 3.5L 286HP engine.After the introduction of the 4th generation, the folks at Acura HQ decided to drop the TL Type-S and the began to produce the TL SH-AWD (Super Handling All Wheel Drive) The new TL SH-AWD has a 3.7L 305HP V6 engine.
